An SD (Secure Digital) card is a popular nonvolatile memory card format. Nonvolatile indicates that the memory can retain stored information even when not powered. Due to this and a small form factor, the SD card is a perfect choice for expanding storage capacity in a wide array of electronic devices, including your Android mobile device.
An SD card provides the Android user a great deal of flexibility because they can access and manipulate it directly from their notebook or desktop PC. Using an SD card on a computer generally requires an SD card reader, but in this case, the Android device serves as the interface between the computer and the SD card. In this context, mounting is the process of connecting an Android device to a computer and exposing the SD card to it.
Connect the Android device to the computer via USB. A ‘USB connected’ message and a USB icon in the top-left of the screen should appear on the Android device.
*Note: You do not need special drivers. Android USB drivers in the SDK are for developers only.
Click the notification icon, and then click on the ‘USB connected’ bar. The new ‘USB connected’ window reads: ‘…Select “Mount” if you want to copy files between your computer and your phone’s SD card’. Click the ‘Mount’ button.
*Note: Some Android devices provide an auto-mount feature, which makes the above steps unnecessary. If you’re Android does not, it can be added through an auto-mount app. These are convenient for those Android users who connect the phone to their computer often.
